Guided Sturgeon Fishing Trips - Charters
Many people don’t realize just how good the sturgeon fishing has become on the St Clair River
just outside Detroit Michigan. Michigan’s Lake St Clair is one of the top sturgeon fisheries in North
America. Historically sturgeon were found in unbelievable numbers throughout the Great Lakes.
There are many stories of fish over 150lbs and well over 100 years old. The current state record
is an amazing 193lbs. The sturgeon population in Lake St Clair, St Clair River and the Detroit
River is rebounding back to high levels. There are numerous amounts of fish ranging from 30-
90lbs and sturgeon up to 120lbs have been caught. One estimate reported 10-20,000 sturgeon in
the St Clair system.
Sturgeon are an excellent species as a trophy game fish and primarily feed on small fresh fish,
crustaceans, insect larvae, and clams etc. They put up an incredible fight and often become
completely airborne out of the water like a tarpon while on the end of your line! Now imagine
fighting a 60lb Great Lakes Sturgeon in a deep 3mph river current on a fishing rod.
